Terraria hosting FAQ
How much RAM does a Terraria server need?
Forest includes 2 GB, comfortable for a small or medium world with the default 8 player slots. Jungle doubles that to 4 GB for large worlds, bigger groups, and builds heavy on NPCs and wiring.
How many players can join?
New servers start with 8 slots. Raise the limit any time from your server settings; Terraria allows up to 255.
Can I upload an existing world?
Yes. Upload the .wld file to saves/Worlds with the dashboard file tools, set the world name in your server settings to match, and restart. Keep a copy of the original first.
Does it run tModLoader?
Not yet. Servers run the official vanilla dedicated server today. If tModLoader is what you need, say so on Discord; that is how the next addition gets picked.
Can console or mobile players join?
No. A PC dedicated server only accepts the PC version of Terraria. Console and mobile editions use their own multiplayer.
Which version does the server run?
The newest official dedicated server release at install time, downloaded straight from terraria.org. Your worlds live outside the server files, so an update never touches them.
