Do my friends need SkyFactory 5 installed?

Yes — everyone installs the same version through the CurseForge app. Vanilla Minecraft can't join a modded server.

Can I bring an existing SkyFactory 5 world?

Yes. Upload it through the dashboard file tools on a server running the same pack version, and keep a copy of the original until you've verified it in game.
